1964 Gibson LG1 Repair Process

I began reading up on blending and matching the lacquer stain I used on the neck. I bought a quart of good clear lacquer and a small detail spray gun. I planned on tinting some clear lacquer to blend the neck to the body. I began to do some "soul searching" with regards to this projects progress. I decided, although I knew nothing about this repair when I started, It has turned out great up to this point. After careful consideration, I decided the next phase of the project was over my head.

I once again, contacted my "go to guy" Matt Tunney (my luthier over at Phat Cat Guitars.) Matt sent my guitar over to his lacquer and paint specialist, Wade Wortley. Wade takes care of most of Matt's paint, stain and lacquer work.

Wade had the guitar for a few months. I kept tabs on his progress, and occasionally, Wade would call me with a question or two. My main concern, of course was the blending and transition of the neck to the shoulders. The day finally arrived and Wade called to tell me he had finished the guitar. Wade dropped it off over at Matt's guitar shop.

Believe me when I say, Wade did not disappoint me! I could not have hoped for a better, more professional job. In retrospect, I'm so happy I decided to leave this last phase to the "Professionals".
